rennbahn records welcomes a new member of the family, rich.vom.dorf. grown up in a small village at the lovely countryside in mecklenburg-vorpommern, he decided to move to hamburg a couple of years ago. his debut ep on rennbahn bauernglueck in a certain way reflects the way of life at a countryside through his own intrumental techhouse style. if you listen carefully enough, you might be able to picture how the farmer is dancing with his wife on his farm, after doing his daily job. this ep puts nearly everybody a smile on his face, while dancing open air. basti grub ( desolat / hoehenregler ) produced a remix with a hypnotic & driving touch, which is also simply perfect for the summer. altogether 4 tracks with a lot of good mode!

the highly anticipated squeaky lobster ep has been worth every second of the wait. in terms of sample / synth selection, song structure and sound quality, no expense has been spared. hi-fi synthetic drums intertwine with lo-fi sampled kicks & snares whilst heavy stretched out synth bass lines are topped with bollywood-esque string samples, 80s guitar bridges & plenty of other orchestral mayhem. the lush, thick melodic layers mount up into a frequently spine-tingling whole whilst the rhythm section, although outside the box, does by no means neglect the headnod factor. the incredible feat here is that although no 8 bars are quite the same as the next, a sense of unity is preserved within each genre-defying track, making it the stuff of epic journeys. you may start your listening experience in front of your turntable, staring at the record spinning, but you will end up somewhere quite different, squeaky lobster has made sure of that. as man from phone number 770021 would say: >this is $50.000. good luck.<

good for saturday nights as well as sunday mornings, maxi jazz, rollo and sister bliss are the holy trinity at the centre of the u.k. electronic dance collective faithless. catapulted into fame by their 1996 banger >insomnia<, the group went on to play almost every stage, club and festival known to man. twice. >outrospective< was their third and most successful album, where maxi jazzs trendy vicar approach and sister bliss & rollos innate sense of what makes music work reach their climax. it is more upbeat in tempo and emotion and has an intuitive production that emphasizes their e-flavoured spirituality to a tee. featuring dido and their biggest selling hit >we come one<.

ok � the sad truth is we have been searching for this dat close to 6 years since rabbit in the moons david christophere and san diego native sotero finished the project. both mixes were done around winter 95 / 96. despite excitement around the label at the time, eventually the tracks fell to the wayside under the age-old excuse of >figuring out what to do with them<. meanwhile, knowing a good thing when he heard it, three made a dat copy and cut some actetates to play out. they made their way around a good portion of the earth via himself, some friends and one west coast dj who boldly vowed to just put it out on his own --- off the slate --- if we didnt get our act together. fortunately he didnt, but neither did we because both david and three misplaced the dat copies and sotero never had one!

supported by tornado wallace (delusions of grandeur), pete herbert (reverso 68/dance disorder)... when jay shepheard launched retrofit in early 2010, deep house with a splash of disco was on the menu. six releases later and the quality of music hasnt faltered once. jays own work has always been the main focus on all five releases but for retrofit 6, rudys midnight machine, (who is in fact robin lee of faze action) takes to the stage alongside an appearance from shepheard (as ee_ef_ex) on remixing duties. >ecstatic love glow< kicks off the ep, diving head first into the disco and synth heavy realm that we expect from retrofit (and, for that matter, from mr lee), whose house outputs with faze action as far back as 97 speak for themselves. the intro of tip tapping hats and congas leads into a penetrating bass guitar, a riff that goes on to be cleverly mirrored by keyboards and later, by what sounds like a scratchy lakland guitar. wooden hats, sirens and a plethora of cosmic elements boogie their way around until the tracks dominant synth parades in and takes over the arrangement, striking a dramatic and smug pose at the close of each stab. the second track of >east side good living< sticks with its predecessors groove, cosmic sirens, electronic whistles and metallic drum taps yet again highlighting rudys modern disco sound

the all city harmony show rolls into ornate towers with the a masdelux session ep. kicking proceedings off >i see< is endowed with the kind of boompty bass that immediately brings to mind julio bashmore, complemented by gently cooing vocals and synths that drop in and out of the mix sweetly. the mid section breakdown is divine! moodymanc takes a good long hard look in the mirror with his deep reflection mix of >i see<, stripping back the original to create a genuine late night burner - exactly the kind of quality weve come to expect from this producer. this shares the flips side with another original achs cut, namely >extra funk<, which shapes a broken beat around some killer boogie bass and cleverly arranged funk sample

one of vahagns best friends (tiago from dfa, clearmont 56, golf channel, etc), has a residency at lisbons top club lux called trust. after attending one of these trust nights, this lisbon-based armenian musician arrived in his studio right after the club night and wrote the original material for this record in the course of a few hours. the result was so special, that soon groovement had it signed upon hearing, and contacted tiago to be the remixer for the track dedicated to him. a record with a story like this is bound to be good!

we met fred ventura in 2006 over emails sent to italians do it better headquarters. he was one of the first people from europe to start writing the label prior to after darks release. it took us a few months to realize that this was fred ventura, the cult italo legend from milan. like a true gentleman, he had never bothered to mention it. since the early 1980s fred ventura has released numerous singles in europe & toured the world extensively as a solo artist. last year, johnny was in bologna on tour with desire & fred came out to the show to drink champagne & bring us some copies of the reissued tapes of fred�s early post punk group state of art. the lightbulb lit up & we asked him if he had any home recordings of his solo work. months later, he sent us 83 tracks of cassette recordings between 1982 & 1987. they had been sitting upstairs in a dusty box at his parents house in italy for the last 25 years. these tracks have only been heard by a handful of his closest friends. we were completely floored & honored! finding a beautiful treasure completely untouched & preserved is so rare. the songs are raw & honest written by a romantic with a love for an anthemic chorus & a drum machine running through his veins. think early minimal depeche mode with an italian heart. ornew order covering madonna produced moroder. yes, its that good. here we have the first official italians do it better release of these songs on a 4 song 12inch ep. this vinyl only release is a teaser for the >dont give up< 18 track lp out in a couple of months. so in the meantime, slip on those gucci loafers, rev up the alfa romeo and head down to the discotheque because life is too short

did you ever hear about christian strobe? no? hardly surprising, cause its a brand new solo-project by christian schnall, one half of disco trash music (maximal electro) and spruce (dreamy shoegaze). the german guy is musically rooted in the 80ies and early 90ies and as christian strobe, he combines airy new wave pop, retro-futurism with a pinch of house. the original mix of >midnight call< is full of magic, desire and an airy atmosphere, but still a simple pop song. the nightdrive version is recommended for nightly rides with your ferrari testarossa through big city lights. the italo-disco-pop-masters from codebreaker gives the original a funky french taste and reknowned keenhouse conjured a good-feeling remix with lovley summer-piano-chords. midnight call? you could name it sunshine call! in a more and more digital environment, the warmth of the analog vhs-tape version gives you the relaxing mood you need. the placid >lonesome astronaut< completed the debut-ep and takes you to a cosmic trip though time and space. stay tuned for the upcoming full-length album called >heartworks< in autumn 2011.

the band like to compare themselves to caribou, orbital, hot chip, fourtet, and pet shop boys, all pretty good touchstones in our eyes, however it was the sheer gloriousness of their music that had us hooked.
their debut ep features the uplifting and euphoric >ranting and raving< and the 9 minute sound-movie >lemon<. remixes come from richard norris and his time and space machine project (we are going to have to put this guy on the payroll soon) and russian ice cool customer sportloto. free school also appear live (in sheep masks no less) so watch out for them at a venue near you. their debut album is in the pipeline and already sounding good.

eric duncan (of rub n tug fame) drops release number four in his keep it cheap series - this time inviting the ever on-point justin vandervolgen (tbd) to take care of b side duties head and shoulders above the glut of edits out there, these dig much deeper & are purpose built for sweaty club use, and not to tantalize bedroom bloggers. as with the cult combi series, we expect these to sell out in a matter of days - 300 copies only.

fina has been soaking up the sunshine over the past few weeks procrastinating over the best time to release its next summer cut. with global warming rubbing everyone up the right way, we feel now is as good a time as any to drop fina 004. originally from south africa, esa mervin granger may now be more glasgow concrete towers than table top mountain but his grooves are pure house pedigree. from his releases under his mervin granger moniker to exclusive remixes for ooft! the cape town cat was a natural choice for a very >summer< shuffling three track jaunt.title track veloore is immediately recognisable from its soft analogue piano chords, amalgamated with a dreamy filtered vocal and a bass line which nods to the acidic side of deep house. on the remix is erefaan pearce, a fellow south african who pins soul to every production he lays his hands on. reworking vocals and bass lines into an infectious frenzy that is almost impossible to resist, erefaan draws that sunshine feeling from every angle. think las salinas and you are nearly there. completing the ep on the flipside is galaxy, a deep vocal number paying homage to all the lazy dogs. cosmic deep house aimed purely at the terrace. fina records 004: we present� esa

the fried tofu crew follow up their excellent first course with another tasty selection! on the a-side sweet soulful voices catch you from the first try on. but dont be hasty, or you will burn your tongue. this is hot and far from being a dessert. after the first impression of sweetness, you will feel the spicy taste coming through. we all love that slight burning on the lips, making you really feel the feel. the first cut on the b-side digs even deeper into sweetness. somehow everything seems to be so lovely, each time this one is played out. its clear that even the ruff guys cant resist the taste of honey. real sweet and spicy, thats how its got to be. things are straightened out on the final cut, which finishes off the meal with a raw funk jam. the extended guitar groove gets back to the basics. sometimes few essential things, combined in the right way, can be all you need. a typical mistake when preparing a meal is to add too many different spices.

jon dasilva is one of the original hacienda (the manchester club) djs and was behind the decks when house exploded in the uk during the summer of love in 1988 as well as being a tour dj for new order and the haciendas usa tour in 1990. since then he has been credited for mentoring djs such as sasha and been an inspiration to laurent garnier a.o. he has also got a string of releases under his belt for labels such as soma, deconstruction, robs records and better days. check! on his debut release he teams up with vocalist donald waugh and the return to the roots of house music with >love is all we need<. together they have created a house classic that never was, reminiscent of an essential dj international release or alike. comes as full vocal and dubbed out bootleg mix. on the flip we find brailles on remix duties. fresh from his massive >the year 3000< on our direct current series, braille pushes >love is all we need< into the next century. classic feel good stuff. this is how we like our vocal house!

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

gerd is delivering at the moment! after releases on clone royal oak, philpot, a big re-issue on rejected, great remixes on 4lux and delusions of grandeur its time for him to release on his own 4lux label! a massive chicago influenced track called h.o.u.s.e. featuring the voice of l.b. bad, the prince of dance music. this track was originally penned in 1994 when gerd had elbee over to tour the benelux. the track was released on an obscure limited edition white label only back then, but here a new rework of these old recordings. 2011 sees the track remixed by gerd himself and he takes the tune into rough & uncompromising analogue territory with filthy synth bassline and relentless tr808 action. seriously good track!! jakob korn, arttu and neville watson are on remix duty and deliver some fresh remix that complete this record. recommended!

gogo music unleashes the 60 hertz project invigorated with ralf gum and essential i treatments. their world debut single >capricorn< is an admirable jazz house affair featuring magnificent vibraphone and guitar soli with a good dose of melancholy. 60 hertz project was formed mid june 2009 in pretoria and is a live performing group fusing musicians and producers. it was initiated by the young producer and dj talented blackjean. he was joined by the likeminded deeptwelve and marvink, who inspired to collaborate with pianist sdk, bass-player kmor, guitarist tap plus percussionist and vocalist cromy. conjoined they deliver an outstanding performance combining live played instrumentation and electronic beats which brings jazz to the house club and house to the jazz bar. gogo music now releases with >capricorn< their first ever record crowing with remixes by ralf gum and essential

proper heat slid onto the nangsphere last year with their nifty >we are ready< ep. they certainly were� good reception all around and some fine plaudits. fast forward on 6 months and we are really pleased that the follow up >move ep< hits the streets. proper heat are from lithuania and are made up of martin virgin, saxtone and some fine vocals from karolis ramoska. laid-back, accessible disco house is the order of the day with this ep. we have two finely voiced tracks. dulcet tones and catchy songs abound with karolis doing a fine job in the voice department. lead track >the move� is mid tempo groover. mixes from nang label new-long-found-friend james bright and label stalwart (and supertop photographer) ichisan� you are always a subject when you are in the same room as this guy�. snap snap snap. james grooves it up with tight synthy bass and ichisan gets electronic and rolling. you can check out the video for >the move< on youtube and our home page too. the equally able >get ready< also makes a strerling appearance on the ep. another fine disco groovoid song. all in all the package overflows with extra dubs and instrumentals. bountiful disco abounds.

in just a matter of months, life and death has swiftly established itself as purveyors of quality contemporary dance music, made by artists who would undoubtedly make anyone s short list of who i d like to invite to my afterparty . it seems only fitting then that with their newest release they ve recruited the undisputed kings of late night mayhem and madness for a paen tribute to that beautiful party after the party, the continuation of all things good and twisted.. the afterparty itself. not to take the issue of such a joyful celebration lightly, dop has gone on secret missions over the last 6 months, quietly (and often not so quietly) infiltrating afterparties worldwide and secretly extracting pituitary secretions from the rowdiest party goers at each of them. they then took these secretions, burned them in a special voodoo ceremony and immediately went into the studio to create a fitting tribute to the after-hours festivities we all hold so dear. once that was complete, friends were invited and even more deviants came to the party for some dirty late night remix action. clockwork (who s recently released it s you again on hot creations has already been the soundtrack to many an after party) are here, french wolf+lamb collaborator le loup is here, mas collective (who recorded on seminal nyc label strictly rhythm) is here and marius & david are here too.. everybody giving it their own special flavor. what an afterparty indeed.
